Your
wishes have been granted, TCP/IP users! z/IPMon, the only full
function performance and problem manager for your critical VSE TCP/IP
systems, is now reporting on response time, either
by application or by host. This useful information immediately shows
any degradation in your users' interaction with the system to help
you spot a performance problem.

With z/IPMon, you can even
go back in time with the exclusive Retrospect™
feature and finally replay past TCP/IP activity and watch the response
time as it happened in the past. You simply change the date and time fields in z/IPMon to
a previous point in time and z/IPMon will reload and display the data as
it occurred. So when your boss wants to know what happened,
you can go back in time and tell him - without buying a Delorean!

Are you still running your
main VSE console on an old 3278/3279 dumb terminal? Have your operators
complained about the default message colors when they go into re-display
mode? The good news is that you can change these colors. Punch
IJBEDEF.Z from IJSYSRS.SYSLIB. Edit it and add the following:
IJBDEF
DEFAULT,LMSG,F5
IJBDEF
DEFAULT,HMSG,F5
IJBDEF
DEFAULT,PMSG,F5
IJBDEF
DEFAULT,AMSG,F5
Assemble your new IJBEDEF and catalog it to IJSYSRS.SYSLIB, press PF3 on
the main console to disconnect, and press ENTER to reconnect and voila!
All of the messages that used to come out in hard to read blue against a
black screen, now come out in easier to read turquoise. In the above
default commands, HMSG and LMSG are redisplay mode messages, AMSG are
'action' type messages, PMSG are 'prompt' type messages that require an
operator reply. Other entries are IMSG - Information messages, RMSG -
Immediate command response, EMSG - System failure message, and EINP -
Echoed console input. The F5 is the color code for turquoise. Other
colors/codes are: F0 - Neutral, F1 - Blue, F2 - Red, F3 - Pink, F4 -
Green, F5 - Turquoise, F6 - Yellow, F7 - Neutral, F8 - Black, F9 - Dark
Blue, FA - Orange, FB - Purple, FC - Pale Green, FD - Pale turquoise, FE
- Grey, and FF - White.
Some
of the colors obviously should not be used on some terminals. You don't
want to specify a black message when the background is also black, but
it is simple to experiment to see what looks best to you. Just
reassemble IJBEDEF and disconnect/reconnect the console to get the new
definitions.
There
are other fields on the console that you can change, such as the title,
but keep in mind that you can't change the length of the field. You can
also change the definitions of the PF keys.
For
more information, see the section on Tailoring Console Definitions in
the z/VSE Administration Guide.
This will also work with console sessions from the Interactive Interface
except in this case you would punch IESEDEF.Z from IJSYSRS.SYSLIB, add
the same definitions as above, reassemble/catalog it. Just sign off of
your IUI session and sign back on and your default console colors are
now fixed.
